Pictures at an Exhibition - Modest Mussorgsky

Prepare to be swept away by the National Concert Band of America’s "Sketches of Sound" on March 2. This concert explores the intersection of art and music, featuring an exhibit by young artists, as well as local artist Rachael Black creating a work onstage inspired by the performance, this is a unique experience you don't want to miss!

The program features Katajh Copley’s "In Living Color," a dazzling composition that pulses with energy and draws from the modern jazz world. Inspired by artists like Snarky Puppy and Estelle’s "American Boy," as well as the iconic George Gershwin, this piece paints a vivid sonic picture that is as dynamic as it is colorful.

The concert will also showcase a composition by one of America's preeminent female composers, Julie Giroux. Known for her masterful and expressive writing, Giroux's “Bookmarks From Japan” adds depth and richness to this diverse program, offering a powerful blend of emotion and technical brilliance.

​

Rounding out the program, movements from Mussorgsky’s "Pictures at an Exhibition" bring to life vivid musical scenes, making this concert a true celebration of art in sound.
